A rare photo of Churchill was stolen from a hotel in Canada

A valuable photograph was stolen from the Chateau Laurier Hotel in Ottawa (Canada) — a black-and-white snapshot of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, known as the "Roaring Lion".

This is stated in the statement of the administration of the most expensive hotel in Ottawa. The photo has been on the wall of the hotel's reading room since 1998. The thieves replaced the photo with a copy. Moreover, the substitution was discovered quite recently.

The police are investigating the circumstances of the incident.

This photo was taken by Canadian photographer Yusuf Karsha (1908-2002) in December 1941 after Churchill spoke at the Canadian Parliament, located a stone's throw from the Chateau Laurier. The picture is considered the most famous photographic image of a politician without a cigar. Usually Churchill was always photographed with a cigar, but at that time a Canadian photographer personally took it from the British Prime Minister, who in the picture because of this turned out to be "in a bad mood." Therefore, the photo was nicknamed "The Roaring Lion".
