A tourist ship sank on Lake Maggiore in Italy

A tourist boat capsized during bad weather on Lake Maggiore in northern Italy. There were more than 20 people on board, four of them drowned.

The crash occurred on May 28. The 16 m long vessel went for a walk on the lake with two dozen passengers who gathered on it for a birthday celebration. The weather deteriorated sharply, high waves rose, the ship capsized and sank.

Some passengers were able to swim to shore, others were rescued by passing boats. A total of 19 people survived.

The search operation continued until this morning. Divers found the bodies of four dead. The wreckage is located at a depth of 16 m.
