A visit to Mount Fuji in Japan will be paid

The Japanese authorities, as part of the fight against excessive tourist traffic, decided to impose restrictions on visiting one of the main attractions of the country — Mount Fuji. The decision was made by the government of the Japanese prefecture of Yamanashi.

So, from July 1, 2024, visitors will have to pay for climbing the popular route — the Yoshida Trail, located in the northern part of Fuji. The amount of the fee will be announced in February.

There will also be a daily limit on the number of visitors allowed to climb Fuji: no more than 4,000 people. The time of ascent will also be limited: climbing the mountain will be prohibited from 16:00 to 2:00.

The decision was made due to too many tourists, which leads to the accumulation of debris on the mountain and injuries among inexperienced guests. The new measures are designed to "ensure the cleanliness of the Yoshida trail, especially given the limited number of utilities."

It is reported that in 2023, more than 221,000 people climbed Fuji, of which about 137,000 walked along the Yoshida Trail.
