At the New Istanbul Airport, aircraft will be serviced on three runways at once
At the New Istanbul Airport (IST) from April 17, 2025, planes will simultaneously take off and land on three runways. This was stated by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of the country Abdulkadir Uraloglu.
According to him, this solution will minimize operating costs, increase fuel economy and increase flight efficiency. As a result, the airport will be able to serve up to 200 million passengers per year, whereas at the moment the annual passenger traffic is 90 million people.
The Turkish Ministry of Transport clarifies that in the world a similar runway use system now exists only in the United States, at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. In Turkey, it will be the first in Europe.
