Crete was hit by a severe storm

as a result of a strong storm that hit the Greek island of Crete, one person was killed, several people were injured and missing.

In some areas of the island, rivers overflowed their banks and flooded roads. A lot of cars were swept into the sea.

In the tourist city of Chania, houses and public buildings were flooded. In the city of Sitia, tourists and a security guard were blocked at the local Archaeological Museum.

Nikos Kazantzakis Airport, located 5 km from Heraklion, has suspended operations. It is not yet known when flights will resume.
