Hurricane hits the Netherlands, hundreds of flights canceled
Hurricane Poly has hit the Netherlands.
At least 300 flights were canceled at Schiphol International Airport due to strong winds, and roads were blocked by fallen trees in some parts of the country.
The north of the Netherlands suffered the most from the impact of the elements — the provinces of North Holland, Friesland, Flevoland and the Ijsselmeer region. The highest level of weather danger has been declared there.
Hurricane "Poly" has become the strongest in the Netherlands in the summer in recent years. Wind gusts in it reached 40 m/s. Meteorologists note that such a powerful hurricane in summer is an extremely unusual phenomenon for a country where the storm season lasts from October to April.
