In Egypt, the temple of Aphrodite was found under water

According to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities of Egypt, archaeologists have discovered a temple of the ancient Greek goddess Aphrodite under water off the coast of Alexandria.

The discovery of an ancient temple dating back to the 5th century was made by a joint Egyptian-French archaeological mission working underwater in the sunken ancient city of Heraklion in the Gulf of Abu Kir.

Objects made of bronze and ceramics brought from Greece were found inside the temple.

Scientists believe that Heraklion was built in the VIII century BC. It was the largest trading center and port of ancient Egypt, and went under water about 1200 years ago. Archaeologists discovered the city in 2000.
