The northern region of Italy, Emilia-Romagna, suffered from the strongest flood in 100 years. The death toll reached 14 people, 20,000 residents were left homeless.
23 rivers burst their banks, 280 landslides descended. Roads were blocked, in particular the A1 motorway. The movement of trains on separate lines has stopped.
Firefighters carried out 2,000 rescue operations throughout the region and in some parts of the central Marche region, where flooding was also observed.
