In Paris, the rental of electric scooters will be banned from September
The mayor of Paris, Anna Hidalgo, said that from September 1, electric scooter rentals will be banned in the French capital. Parisians voted for this measure during a citywide poll.
Hidalgo noted that "Parisians have clearly expressed their position" and the mayor's office will follow their decision. So, according to the results of the vote, 89% of residents of the French capital spoke out against renting electric scooters.
The vote was held in the format of a consultative referendum, which is not binding — the decision on the results is made by the authorities at their discretion.
According to the authorities, 408 accidents involving scooters, electric scooters, segways, monowheels and other similar types of transport occurred in Paris in 2022. Three people were killed in these accidents, 459 people were injured.
