In Venice, a bus crashed off a bridge, killing more than 20 tourists
The number of victims of a terrible accident involving a bus in the Venice suburb of Mestre continues to grow and has already reached 21 people, according to the Venice prefecture.
Information about the incident was distributed by Italian news TV channels, which also claim that 12 more people were injured as a result of a bus falling from a height. In addition, 4-5 people are still missing.
A bus belonging to the Venice public transport operator Actv broke through a roadblock and fell from a considerable height near the Mestre railway station. This incident led to the fire of the bus, which affected the electrical wires, according to the newspaper Il Gazzettino.
Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro immediately arrived at the scene and called the incident a huge tragedy. As a sign of solidarity and grief, he declared city mourning. He described the scene from the scene of the accident as apocalyptic.
According to some reports, the bus was running on methane, and the passengers in it were tourists heading to one of the local campsites.
The Venice Health Authority has activated the protocol of major emergencies, which includes the opening of all emergency departments and the call for backup medical personnel.
