In Venice, tourists were fined for surfing on the canal
On August 17, in Venice, two tourists from Australia rode jet surfboards - powered surfboards on the Grand Canal.
The Mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, announced a search for violators of the order, offering dinner at his own expense for information about them. He called the surfers themselves "idiots-tyrants."
Soon, the police found the tourists thanks to surveillance videos and reports from citizens. Surfboards worth 25,000 euros were seized from Australians. Also, each of them was issued a fine in the amount of 1,500 euros.
In addition, the Venice Mayor's Office instructed the Civil Bar to study the issue of collecting reputational damage from tourists in favor of the city, and the prosecutor's office intends to accuse them of creating a threat to navigation.
