Platypuses are dying out in Australia
Environmentalists are sounding the alarm. The population of platypuses in two states of Australia may completely disappear due to floods and fires.
So, the number of these unique animals has sharply decreased after the floods in Queensland and New South Wales.
Scientists also believe that the platypus is likely to completely die out in places where there have been catastrophic droughts and fires.
At the same time, the disappearance of platypuses is affected not only by natural disasters, but also by the growth of cities, land clearing and habitat degradation.
Platypuses live only on the east coast of Australia in Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales, as well as on the island of Tasmania. According to the classification of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, this animal species is in a vulnerable position.
