Spanish authorities have started collecting personal data of tourists

Hotels and rental offices in Spain have begun collecting and transmitting detailed information about tourists to the authorities.

Under the new rules, which came into force on December 2, tourists are asked for personal data such as home address, phone numbers, payment methods, information about children and other information about family relationships.

Further, this data is uploaded to the Spanish security services system within 24 hours.

The rules apply to hotels, campgrounds, travel agencies and car rental companies. In case of non-compliance with the rules, they may face a fine of up to 30,000 euros.

The Spanish authorities claim that these measures will help fight crime. However, the local tourism business is afraid of negative consequences due to the violation of the privacy policy and is already planning to appeal to the court.
