Thai New Year Songkran is included in the UNESCO tentative list
The UNESCO World Heritage Committee has included the Songkran Festival — Thai New Year — in the preliminary list of intangible cultural heritage.
Songkran is considered a family holiday and is celebrated in April.
At the moment, Thailand has four more intangible assets awaiting consideration by UNESCO. By the end of the year, the organization will make a decision to include the masked dance drama Khon, traditional Thai massage and the dance drama Nora in its list.
The country also suggests UNESCO to include Thai boxing, Phi Ta Khon Perfume Festival, curry rice and mango rice in Thai.
