The eruption of the Fagradalsfjadl volcano has begun in Iceland

The eruption of the Fagradalsfjadl volcano began 30 km southwest of the Icelandic capital Reykjavik. This was reported by the National Meteorological Office of the country.

Lava erupts on the Reykjavik Peninsula near Litli Hrutur Hill. The police have blocked all major roads in the direction of the volcano.

This volcano has already erupted in 2021 and 2022. Its previous activity, according to volcanologist Torvald Linklater, was rather weak.

Iceland is characterized by significant volcanic activity, since there are several mountain-volcanic systems on its territory.
