The Trevi Fountain was opened after the restoration
The Trevi Fountain was opened in Rome (Italy) after the restoration. Access to it is limited, but it is still free.
In order to avoid large crowds, the authorities in Rome have set a limit on the number of visitors: only 400 people can be near the fountain at a time.
The new restrictions will be in effect from 9:00 to 21:00. On Mondays and Fridays, the entrance will be open only from 11:00.
It is forbidden to eat, drink or smoke in the area in front of the fountain. Security personnel monitor access and compliance with the rules. Visitors can move freely in front of the fountain bowl, but it is forbidden to sit on its edge.
"This is a theater, you don't sit on the edge of the stage," said Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri.
There are no plans to introduce paid access to the Trevi yet, although the mayor does not rule out such a possibility in the future. It is known that the restoration of the fountain cost the city authorities 300,000 euros. This amount is five times less than the amount that tourists leave in the fountain every year. For example, in 2023, a record 1.6 million euros were taken out of the fountain.
