Tourists in Turkey banned from swimming in a popular lake
The Turkish authorities have banned swimming in Lake Salda, which is a popular tourist attraction and a natural protected object.
The ban on bathing this season was introduced due to the discovery of a high content of chemicals released in the lake water, including sunscreens. This led to a change in the population of microorganisms and bacteria in the reservoir. In addition, the waste changes the quality and unique color of the water.
In this regard, the Turkish Nature Protection Association proposed to introduce the same protective measures that are already used in Pamukkale. "We should love Lake Salda only with our eyes," the scientists said.
Salda is a crater lake in southwestern Turkey, the deepest freshwater lake in the country, which can be reached from Antalya in just two and a half hours by car. The lake is famous for its turquoise water and white sand dunes formed by mineral deposits.
